I was in a car accident over ten years ago. My car was hit on the drivers side. I got a side-ways whiplash. I now have constant pain while I am in any upright position. I can lay in any position and have no pain. However I now seem to be developing 'twitches' even while lying down, and they are getting worse.
All of the multiple X-Rays, MRI's, CT scans, and multiple other tests do not show anything wrong. The only thing I have for sure is scolosis. My scoliosis is also getting worse, my right shoulder is about 1-1/2 inches higher than my left shoulder, my head sits rotated to the left 3 or 4 degrees, and my pelvis sits crooked, this was not from the accident I grew this way. Some of the lumbar vertebra are also rotated.
I am not a doctor, but I have been reading medical books, on my very rare good days, which come less and less often. I have been doing some of my own research on my condition, mostly because the doctors here in this area of mine (Western PA) don't care, or don't know what to do and give up on me. They just keep saying "Exercise it will stop hurting". After ten years of exercise you think they would realize thats not getting it done!
As far as I can tell from my reading [Travell & Zohn, among others], my pain is coming from my muscles, or my ligaments. How do you fix ligament damage in the neck area? I've been told ligaments feel no pain, but I was also been told my ligaments where damaged, so where does that leave me?
Since I have no pain laying down, I sleep fine. My pain is strictly position related. Any upright positions cause varying degrees of pain, sitting, which I don't do at all any more it hurts so bad, and standing-still are the two positions that cause the most pain. Most of my pain is in the neck and head areas.
Shortly after my accident I had a chiropractor adjust me 5 or 6 times. The pain never went away but I didn't go to another chiropractor for about 2 years.
From 1992 I have been to a myotherapist that has helped with my headaches somewhat. Before I went to the myotherapist, I had a headache constantly when I was in any position except laying down. After the myotherapy, I have headaches 3 or 4 times a week regardless of how much I sit or stand still. I did then and still do now get a headache every time I sit or stand still. [See Trigger Points for more info on Myotherapy.]
I hope you have some ideas for me to try. Thank you for your time.
I found that http://www.spinenet.com/backRounds/simmons/ explains my symptoms almost exactly in their example case #2.
http://www.spinenet.com/backRounds/simmons/ seems to have many interesting related cases. Such has how MRI's Lie!
